Safety Checks for Revolving Doors

Revolving Door Activation and Safety

For doors less than or equal to 3000mm internal diameter.

Safety Devices

There are two types used:

1. Pressure switches activated by physical contact
2. Sensors activated by a presence in the detection zone

Note: In order to test the safety sensors we recommend using the approved test objects CA & CB as detailed in BS EN16005. If additional safety devices are fitted such as a Leading face sensor, and/or a Central core sensor,  please refer to test instructions in Fig2a.

Test the door safety

Leading mullion sensor (if fitted):

  • With the door operating, place the test object CA in position A as shown in Fig 1 and verify that the door stops without hitting the test object.
  • Repeat with the test object in position B.

Bottom Rail pressure switch for each leaf:

  • With the door operating, place the test object CB in position shown in Fig 2
Safety edge should touch test object and stop door without contact by door leaf.

Leading face sensor for each leaf:

  • With the door operating, place test objects CA & CB in position shown in Fig 2a
Safety sensor should detect test object CA and slow down or stop door without contact by door leaf to test object CB.

Leading edge to drum wall for each leaf:

  • With the door operating, place the test object CB in position shown in Fig 3  Safety edge should touch test object and stop door without contact by door leaf.

Leading mullion pressure switch:

  • With the door operating, press the leading mullion buffer at position A as shown in Fig 4 and verify that the door stops.
  • Repeat the test in position B.

Automatic operation:

  • Test the door operation by walking toward the door, which should begin to rotate of accelerate to normal operating speed  when you reach not less than 1000mm from the threshold (Fig 5).
  • The door should continue to rotate for sufficient time to allow the user to pass completely through the door.
  • Repeat for other entrance.

Manual operation:

  • With the door stationary, test by pushing the door in its direction of rotation (fig 6).
  • The door should continue to rotate for sufficient time to allow the user to pass completely through the door.

Power Assisted operation:

  • Test by pushing the door in its direction of rotation (fig 7).
  • On removal of hand pressure the door should stop.
  • Test by pushing the door in its direction of rotation (fig 7).

General tests:

  • Check there are no hazards due to crushing, shearing, impact and drawing-in
  • Check that the door speed is not likely to increase the risk of impact
  • Check the door area does not present tripping or slipping hazards
  • Check all door panels for broken/cracked glass
  • Check all doors have correct warning and information signs displayed
  • Check operation of manual or remote activation
  • Check operation of all emergency stop buttons if fitted
  • Check for distractions and obstructions in the vicinity of the doors

If you have questions about any of the above items, please contact dormakaba UK Service.
Safety devices for all doors should be checked by an ADSA qualified technician at least once a year.

If you have a problem you cannot correct, turn off the door and call dormakaba on 0800 212 380
